Finland 100 grand opening – The Party of the New Century!
The celebration of the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence begins on New Year’s Eve, Saturday 31 December 2016. The party begins around noon near Helsinki’s Töölönlahti Bay and culminates in the Party of the Century at Kansalaistori Square between 9:00 pm and 01:00 am. Expect an historical and unforgettable evening with a great programme in the heart of Finland’s capital – even the main street, Mannerheimintie, will turn into a dance floor! |Töölönlahti Bay area offers lots of fun things for the whole family to see and do, beginning early in the day! There will be a Pikku Kakkonen’s Children’s party on the Opera Outdoor Stage at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.|
Park Stage The pre-party venue between the Opera and Finlandia Hall gets busy in the early evening. A dream line-up of popular up-and-coming artists, including DJ Kridlokk, Astrid Swan, The Holy, Kingfish, Töölön Ketterä, Seksikäs Suklaa, Cina Polada, Dosdela and VG+, plus a dance performance produced by the Random Life collective.
From 6:00 pm until midnight at the Opera stage, We Love Helsinki DJs are spinning records. In the early evening the DJs are playing golden Finnish schlagers and later Finnish pop, rock and disco classics. (Free of charge)
|Kansalaistori Square The favourite DJs for the Tavastia Club Lauantaidisko (Saturday Disco) will raise the beat and keep you warm. The best ever street party will extend all the way on to Mannerheimintie.|
The Party of the New Century: dance, music, stories, comedy, singing, fashion and new circus! The two-hour show includes soundbites from the programme for the upcoming centenary year and tells stories of the amazing adventures of the Finnish people.
The story of Finland will be performed by a stellar group of the best-loved Finnish artists: Saara Aalto, Robin, Alma, Samuli Edelman, Paula Koivuniemi, Remu & Hurriganes feat. Michael Monroe, Paleface, Jenni Vartiainen, Fork, Olavi Uusivirta, Tiisu, Lauri Tähkä, Frida Andersson, Iiro Rantala and Darude. In addition, KOM and Viirus theatres paint unforeseen images of the marvellous adventures of the Finns. See all of your favourites perform together!
Race Horse Company & Mad in Finland will offer breathtaking moments with new circus.
|At midnight, with the magnificent fireworks show at Töölönlahti Bay, the 100th anniversary year of Finland’s independence will officially begin. The dazzling display will take the spectators on a tour through Finland and its four seasons. The display will be visible throughout the event area. After the fireworks show, the party continues at Kansalaistori Square until 01:00.|
