A major undertaking and investment by the Finnish Cultural Fund, the Art Testers project is being launched for the centenary of Finland’s independence and over the next three years will be reaching nearly 200,000 people. Each year the project gives eighth-graders and their teachers the opportunity to visit two cultural institutions in their local area and elsewhere in Finland.
As Art Testers, the students will experience art at the theatre, opera, concert and a museum. To support their work, the Art Testers are provided with advance information about the performances, artists and art forms they are about to see. Students will also see how a work of art comes to life, and what it is like to work as an artist.
After this experience, the students are welcome to express their ideas, feelings and opinions through multiple channels. The feedback given by students goes public, so anyone interested in culture will be able to read their commentary and to find new perspectives into, for example, the classics.
The Art Testers will set out in autumn 2017.
