The Aalto Natives – Finnish Exhibition at Venice Biennale
The principal international art project in celebration of the centennial of Finnish independence will be the Finnish exhibition at the 2017 Venice Biennale.
Finland will be represented by Erkka Nissinen and Nathaniel Mellors, whose multimedia installation entitled The Aalto Natives will take place in the pavilion designed by Finnish master architect Alvar Aalto. The exhibition will be curated by Xander Karskens, Artistic Director of the Cobra Museum.
Finland will exhibit in two pavilions at the historical Giardini exhibition venue in Venice. In addition to the Aalto Pavilion, Finland will also co-exhibit in the Nordic Pavilion.
The Venice Biennale is one of the most important international forums for contemporary art today. With its half million visitors annually and thousands of international journalists and art professionals, it provides significant visibility for Finnish contemporary art. For artists, the biennale presents networking and other work-related opportunities in the international field of international art.
The 57th Venice Biennale will take place from 13 May to 26 November 2017.
